Indiana tax credits, awarded by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, are available to A Better Way donors on a first-come-first-serve basis. Those who contribute $100 or more will receive a credit for 50% of their donations when filing their Indiana State tax returns. The contributions can also be used as a deduction on their Federal tax return.
This means, for example, that for a $1,000 donation, the donor will receive a $500 State income tax credit. This is much more than just a deduction… it comes right off the top of the donors State income tax liability.
Any person, business, or corporation that has an Indiana tax liability is eligible to receive these credits. Credits are claimed for the year in which the donation is made. The Indiana Department of Revenue will mail confirmation of the tax credits to the donors, which can be attached to their tax returns.
